Symbiosis.  Interconnectivity.  Collaboration…

Join us February 15 (the 3rd Tuesday) at 6:30 pm to follow arborist Suzanne Simard, beginning with her puzzlement as to why baby trees did not grow, to insight that trees communicate through a network of fungi beneath the soil.  Fungi forward information from tree-to-tree about environmental changes (such as drought, disease, and tree loss) and even finding family (location of the same species).  Fungi also distribute nutrients, especially carbon that trees need to photosynthesize.  As trees are connected, so Simard’s life is interjected into her scientific journey.  Science, she demonstrates, demands more than technical expertise.  Science thrives on imagination and passion.
