Current Projects

Garden Handrails

This project consists of planning, design and installation of hand railings throughout the gardens to ensure greater access and safety in harmony with the historic nature of the facility. This project has been funded in part by grants from the California Fund of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Charles H. Stout Foundation.

Rehabilitation and Maintenance Master Plan

The Ebell is having a Rehabilitation and Maintenance Plan developed to guide decisions about the renovation of the property (“Master Plan.”)  The product produced will be: an overall template for efficient work description and prioritization; consultant reports by discipline (i.e. historic architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineering, building systems and others as needed); and individual space and maintenance protocols. This project will establish a decision-making plan for the Ebell Board, educate and train staff in “best practice” maintenance procedures, and allow event coordinators to represent the building effectively to the community of prospective users. The Ebell’s success will provide an example for other women’s organizations and those who are stewards of historic sites to undertake these plans and to continue to provide community interaction.
