Look What SHE Did!
, the nonprofit that premièred three of its Artists of Los Angeles films during an Ebell program in November, will hold its annual benefit as a virtual one-hour live-cast event celebrating Women’s History Month and the theme of female resilience. The event will begin at 1:00pm PST on Sunday, March 7. Many Ebell members have already signed up as sponsors and guests. The nonprofit makes short films of women telling stories of remarkable women and has a mission to inspire women and girls to greatness by bringing to light stories of women who changed the world.
Look What SHE Did! will kick off Women’s History Month with the virtual event honoring the legendary labor rights activist and community organizer Dolores Huerta who founded the United Farm Workers Union with Cesar Chavez in 1962 and has worked for labor rights and social justice for over 50 years. Ms. Huerta has received numerous awards including the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award from President Clinton in 1998 and The Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States, from President Obama in 2012. Recently, she was featured in President Biden’s Inauguration ceremony.
The event, hosted by comedian Kate Rigg, will include the première of a new film featuring Dolores Huerta, followed by a conversation with the legend herself about her own resilience as a social justice activist.
Look What SHE Did! closes out Women’s History Month with a virtual salon the afternoon of Sunday, March 28. The salon will feature live screenings of three of the nonprofit’s most popular films followed by conversations with Sonay Hoffman, Brittany Ashley and Dee Johnson, the three story tellers featured in the films. Conversations will focus on female resilience in the most challenging of times and will include participation by the event guests.
Since the November Artists of Los Angeles program at the Ebell, Look What SHE Did! has formed an alliance with the National Women’s History Museum in Washington, D.C. which will house the Look What SHE Did! film collection of over 120 films. Ebell member Julie Hébert, Executive Director and founder of Look What SHE Did! said she’s “excited that both the alliance with the Museum and the virtual format of this year’s benefit allow us to share our stories of amazing women with a broader audience.”
