The mood was celebratory. The room, decked out with flowers and golden stars. And nearly 100 guests came to honor this year’s 14 Rest Cottage Association (RCA) Grantees who every day, Reach for the Stars.
After months of review and deliberations, The RCA chose 14 worthy organizations to receive this year’s grants, totaling $157,000.
We were fortunate to hear from two of our Grantee organizations and one of their clients. Tim Peters of Union Rescue Mission first spoke, and then played a moving film highlighting their amazing Hope Family Center and its programs.
We then heard from Susan Wilson of Harvest Home who told us how their programs transform the lives of homeless pregnant women.
As often happens, clients of these organizations, after successful completion of the services offered, want to give back, and join the staff. That was the case for Alex Firestone of Harvest Home. We were so lucky to have Alex share her uplifting journey from pregnant and homeless to accomplished Harvest Home staff member and Mother.
We want to thank all who attended and shared in the opportunity to honor those who help women in need in Los Angeles, and their children. And special thanks to our Luncheon Committee: Paulinda Schimmel, Anne Court, and Kay Balue.
