Step into the vibrant world of 1937 Shanghai with a new musical featuring the grand reopening of Xing Xing Department Store. As the city embraced modernity amidst the looming threat of war with Japan, employees and customers strived to maintain normalcy. However, a pivotal day in August shattered their complacency, forever altering their lives and the course of China’s history.

Join us for a staged concert reading of this captivating production, featuring original music by Nathan Wang, a compelling book by Jenny Lynn, and evocative lyrics by Matthew Leavitt. Directed by Dámaso Rodríguez, this musical promises to transport you to a pivotal moment in Shanghai’s past.
