In the spirit of the Kentucky Derby, spoken word salon Sassy Southern Stories returns to The Ebell! Created and hosted by Ebell members Wendy Hammers and Suzanne Weerts, this delightful evening of stories about the south starts with music from Jamie and the Silver Dollars and Mint Juleps on the porch at 6:00 pm — followed by stories at 7:30 pm. Don your fascinators and come early for music & mingling!
Suzanne Weerts’ creative nonfiction essays can be found in her new memoir, Champagne Girl in a Budweiser Family, and in The Sun and Good Old Days magazines, as well as several anthologies and online publications. Weerts is a writing teacher, producer, nonprofit fundraiser and community activist who loves helping people find their voice on paper, on stage, and in standing up for meaningful causes. Her company JAM Creative has raised tens of thousands of dollars for local non-profits through storytelling events, and she can also be seen on stages across Southern California sharing her own stories including at The MOTH, Story Salon, Revealed and Tales By The Sea.
Story Whisperer Wendy Hammers has been at the helm of Tasty Words Productions since 2001, a live storytelling salon that serves up hilarious and horrifying real life stories, told by the people who wrote and lived them. She facilities weekly writing classes and leads deep dive retreats in Malibu and Mexico. One of her favorite writers is also one of all time favorite humans, Suzanne Weerts. What a treat to be co - producing Sassy Southern Stories with her. Can’t wait to see all of you decked out in your fascinators on May 6th. Learn more about Wendy and her work at tastywords.com.
