April is Classic Fiction Month, and the Book Chamber is featuring The Wreath, the first volume of the Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy. Set in medieval Norway, it follows Kristin’s transformation from a young lover captivated by an aristocrat to a wife, mother, stepmother, betrayed spouse, and matriarch running a large farm. Over time, she faces personal and societal challenges, culminating in her old age, when she enters a nunnery and dies from the plague—ending with an unexpectedly uplifting conclusion.
Is this plot soap opera or chick lit? Surprising as it may seem, it’s a blend of both: a captivating story with deep emotional, spiritual, and societal insights into 14th-century Scandinavian life. Read and join us on Tuesday, April 22!
