Join us for an informative introduction to a new model of doing business in the entertainment industry and beyond. Ebell member Lindsay Mushett will moderate a discussion with Sarah Ann Masse, the President and Founder of Hire Survivors — a survivor-run nonprofit organization working to end career retaliation against survivors of sexual violence while creating a safer and more equitable world for all. Masse will talk about origins of Hire Survivors, the impact their work has had on the entertainment industry, and her own experience as a public facing survivor of Harvey Weinstein.
Learn tangible steps to make your work environments and communities safer and more welcoming to survivors, while also ensuring people have access to safer, more equitable spaces in which they can thrive. An intimate, insightful, and empowering Q&A will follow the discussion.
Resources will be available for survivors, filmmakers, theater makers, allies, advocates, volunteers, donors — or simply curious listeners.
Sarah Ann Masse is a hilarious and heartfelt woman on a mission; not only is she continuing the trend of breaking stereotypes and proving that females are funny, but she does so while drawing attention to the unhealthy social norms and boxes that our society places women in.
Sarah is an LA-based, queer, bisexual, and invisibly disabled actor, writer, singer, producer, filmmaker, and comedian who was one of the first people to come forward about Weinstein. Since facing career retaliation due to speaking up about abuse, she launched Hire Survivors Hollywood, a non profit organization that works to end retaliation against survivors of sexual violence within the entertainment industry while creating a safer, more equitable world for all.
Sarah is best-known for playing Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times journalist Emily Steel in Universal Pictures’ She Said. Sarah won an AFI Award for being part of the creative ensemble of She Said – winning Movie of the Year for their “contribution to America’s cultural legacy;” and an AARP Movies for Grownups Award for Best Ensemble. She can also currently be seen as Sheila in the new series Blue Ridge starring Johnathan Schaech, Sarah Lancaster, and A Martinez.
Lindsay Mushett is a multi-hyphenate actor, producer, stunt woman, and emerging intimacy coordinator. She is also a proud member of The Ebell!
Lindsay’s acting credits include Blue Bloods (CBS), The Blacklist (NBC), Hightown (Starz), FBI: Most Wanted (CBS), Looks That Kill, and Circle of Fourths. She recently served as the lead stunt double in the Netflix films Uglies (directed by McG, doubling for Joey King) and Rebel Ridge (directed by Jeremy Saulnier, doubling for AnnaSophia Robb), and in Sony’s I Know What You Did Last Summer (directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, doubling for Jennifer Love Hewitt). Lindsay’s producing credits include Bobcat Moretti (starring Vivica Fox), Man & Witch (starring Christopher Lloyd, Sean Astin), and a number of narrative projects for FujiFilm. Her next film in development is True North, a #MeToo revenge feature written alongside her big brother Travis Mushett.
Lindsay is a graduate of Barnard College, the women’s college of Columbia University, where she captained Columbia’s NCAA D1 Soccer Team. She was selected for the prestigious Women in Film Mentorship program under the guidance of Good Trouble showrunner Joanna Johnson and has found community in the Hire Survivors Hollywood network. Lindsay has studied trauma-informed practices at Intimacy Directors and Coordinators where she earned her consent-forward artist certification, and is certified in Mental Health First Aid.
About Hire Survivors
Founded by actor, writer, filmmaker, and Weinstein Survivor Sarah Ann Masse, Hire Survivors is a survivor-run nonprofit organization working to end career retaliation against survivors of sexual violence while creating a safer and more equitable world for all.
Through divisions like Hire Survivors Hollywood® and Hire Survivors Broadway, we envision a world where inclusive representation goes beyond the entertainment industry and becomes a core element of our commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, and safety for historically marginalized groups. Through our work with survivors—a historically marginalized and diverse group themselves—we represent a holistic path towards a more just and inclusive future for everyone.
As an organization we provide free programs and services to survivors and stakeholders alike, such as our Survivor Talent Database; our industry-leading, first-of-its-kind, free Entertainment Industry Toolkit; free media training for survivors; our Hire Survivors Pledge; and our Fiscal Sponsorship Grant Program.
We also provide consulting and training for stakeholders who want to reshape the entertainment industry to be more safe, equitable, creative, and efficient. We collaborate with people working in the entertainment industry at all levels from indie shorts to studio features and everything in between. We have partnered with a wide variety of companies including Women in Film, Lionsgate, Universal, The Hollywood Commission, New Filmmakers LA, Baby Gay, Does The Dog Die, FlashCue, and more.
