As the longest running “powered by women” stage in Los Angeles, the Wilshire Ebell Theatre has a proud history of welcoming performing artists from around the world since 1927. A 1,238-seat classic proscenium theatre, ours is a rental facility, hosting performances ranging from classical ballet, full orchestral-concerts, and foreign-language dramatic plays to standup comedy, children’s musicals, and international pop concerts. The Wilshire Ebell Theatre hosts film premieres, corporate product launch events, lectures on everything from spirituality to politics, and live tapings of popular podcasts, among many other types of events. Please reach out to discuss the possibility of holding your event in this lovely space.
1. No smoking anywhere in the theatre building.
2. No food or drink (other than bottled water) is allowed in the house. Food may be eaten in the dressing rooms or in designated areas backstage.
3. No nailing, bolting, or screwing of scenery to the stage floor.
4. No nailing, taping, screwing, pinning or fastening of posters, signs, or scenery to any of the Ebell walls, hallways, or curtains.
5. Smoke or haze requires the presence of a LAFD Fire Marshal and a Fire Safety Officer Assistant at the producers’ expense. Any use of open flames or pyrotechnics is prohibited without prior approval by the Director of Production and the LAFD. The LAFD determines whether or not the presence of a Fire Marshal and/or a licensed pyrotechnician is needed. This is also at the Producers’ expense.
6. Fire Codes are strictly adhered to. All “soft goods” must have a certificate of flameproofing.
7. Security requirements are at the discretion of the Director of Production and Theatre Business Manager; a MINIMUM of 2 guards are required at all events.
8. Strike and Restore of the house is required immediately following the final contracted performance. All equipment and scenery must be out of the theatre by our midnight curfew. Load-outs which might go later are subject to a walk-away at midnight and a minimum 4 hour strike call the next morning. Equipment or scenery left at the theatre is at the producer’s risk and may be subject to storage and or/cartage fees.
9. The rental comes with one free parking lot.
10. Expendables (such as tape, twine, wire, hardware, gel) as well as power cords, power strips, and tools are the responsibility of the producer. Tools loaned out by the Ebell Theatre and not returned are subject to replacement costs.Finally, please know that information listed here is subject to change at any time.

- Parking: The rental comes with ONE adjacent lot. The Ebell is not responsible for street closures, valet parking, or additional parking shuttles. You may be required to provide a parking attendant; please discuss parking with Theatre Business Manager or Director of Production.

Basic Audio is included in the theatre rental. This is composed of 2 bottom speakers on either side of the theatre. This is suitable for a smaller orchestra level audience (approximately 300 or less) and for shows that are not heavy in audio needs.
Please Note: Microphones are NOT included in the basic audio package. Please look at our “Additional Equipment Rentals” for more information.
A basic lighting system—conventional lighting including overhead LED Par Wash—is provided as part of your venue rental package with various lighting packages available for additional rent. All equipment is hung, circuited, colored, and focused according to our house plot. Any changes to the house plot require the permission of the Director of Production.
No, the Wilshire Ebell Theatre is a non-union house; however, our crew is required to take a 1-hour meal break. We work with you to schedule this during your rental time.
Yes, with documentation showing the non-profit status of the entity that will be signing the rental contract and providing liability insurance, a non-profit discount is available.
We allow you to be in complete control of your tickets, which would include your handling all ticket sales on your own, if you would prefer. This is our Free Option. We do offer other rental options for box office:
Box Office 1: If you need assistance building your map on a website, we are happy to help you do so. You will need to provide us with the username and password as well as a breakdown of the various sections/prices. We will build your ticketing map on your site.
Ticket Scanners (Personnel) & Devices: Two Personnel to scan tickets at the door for a 4-hour shift; equipment provided. This is for the Free Option and Box Office 1 ONLY (it is included with the other two options).
Box Office 2: Set-up website & Run Box Office Day of Event. Client will monitor sales prior to show.
Box Office 3: Wilshire Ebell Theatre staff will set up ticketing on Eventbrite on Ebell’s platform. Ebell Theatre Staff will be at the box office to sell tickets in-person to guests as well as monitor online sales for the 3 weeks prior to the show.

Please note: Additional marketing and promotion is NOT included and is up to the producers. We will happily share the show information on our website and social media as well as place posters in the cases outside of the theatre lobby; however, paid advertising and promoting is not included with the above options and must be discussed with the Theatre Business Manager.
Yes, the Wilshire Ebell Theatre provides concession services for all events. A variety of snacks are available, along with coffee, tea, bottled water and soft drinks. No liquor, beer or wine may be served at the theatre.
There is limited parking available to theatre patrons in the lots adjacent to the theatre building. Ebell parking lots are shared with attendees of the Ebell of Los Angeles campus events next door. Parking is free in the Ebell parking lots.
Unfortunately, there is no reception space in the theatre itself. However, the Ebell of Los Angeles campus next door is a beautiful facility that can accommodate any number of possibilities for pre and post-show receptions, with on-site catering, an executive chef on staff, and a selection of event spaces available. For rental information of the Ebell of Los Angeles campus space, please call (323) 931-1277 and speak with the Special Events Department.
A refundable security deposit is built into the total rental amount collected with every contract. This amount is kept until after the performance in the event that additional charges arise in conjunction with your Event, such as performance overtime charges or charges for damages. Following the Event, any of the remaining refundable security deposit and any box office receipts will be returned to you in the form of a check.
Yes. The Wilshire Ebell Theatre requires renters to secure a standard two million dollar policy of liability insurance for all events held at the theatre. A certificate proving this coverage and listing WILSHIRE EBELL THEATRE and EBELL OF LOS ANGELES as additional insured must be provided to theatre management at least 30 days prior to the Event. The Insured Party listed on the certificate of liability insurance must be the same company in whose name the theatre rental contract is written.
