President’s Message

from Patricia Lombard, 64th President of The Ebell of Los Angeles

December 1, 2020

The stunning red leaves of this grapevine illustrates the beauty of our California Fall season. The evergreen background of our cypress trees remind me that brighter days of spring are just around the corner.

I hope you and your family had a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving. It’s definitely been one for the history books as we all figured out a new way to celebrate. While this year has been much more challenging, as it comes to a close I can honestly say I am hopeful about 2021. And I am excited and honored to host our December 9 Holiday Celebration and Boutique to Kiss 2020 Goodbye and ring in 2021 in Ebell style.

Thanks to our amazingly creative members and staff, we will gather online for a festive celebration with fancy cocktails, delicious food, clever ideas for celebrating virtually and spectacular shopping, topping off with a performance by our own Ebell Chorale.  Actually, you can start shopping right now! All our fabulous artisans and makers are donating 20 per cent of sales back to The Ebell for anything you purchase, so you shopping helps The Ebell at time when we need it most.

The campus has been busy with filming, relieving some of the financial pressure we have been feeling since the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to close the building. All of the weddings and events planned for 2020 were either cancelled or rescheduled, some now into 2022. News of the coming vaccine gives us hope that we might be able to resume some semblance of our former business operations by June. However, the current resurgence of the virus is deeply concerning. Nonetheless, we remain hopeful.

I want to thank all of you who have supported the club this past year by renewing your membership, volunteering your time, donating to our Emergency Fund, supporting our philanthropic work, attending our programs and remaining active in the Ebell community. I also want to acknowledge the sacrifices our staff have made to help us reduce our operating costs while still providing the same excellent level of service. On behalf of the Board, I want to assure you that we are committed to emerging from the crisis stronger and more dedicated to our mission of community and service.

I hope I will see you all on December 9 for our Holiday Celebration.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season.

Patty Lombard,
64th President of The Ebell of Los Angeles
