While many of us may have contributed to a community cookbook over the years (like The Ebell’s very own Cookbook created in 2019), Suzanne Joskow has gone above and beyond that – she’s compiled an archive of nearly 400 community cookbooks from all over Los Angeles County. Residents, organizations and co-operatives have all come together to celebrate their tastes, stove tops and family secrets giving us a unique, and hyper-specific, look into their lives and time period. Suzanne’s work in the Archive as an LA-based artist, curator and writer has helped her address the unanswerable question: Who are California women?

In another of our fun Foodie Fridays ZOOM sessions, she’ll introduce us to her archive and tell us how we can utilize it to link our cuisine/food/meals of today with the women of California who have preceded us.
