Art Reception: George Evans, Deviation of Figure and Form | February 7

Join us for a special Art Reception featuring the artwork of George Evans. This exhibit was curated in partnership with Vida L. Brown, Visual Arts Curator of the California African American Museum.

A native of Southern California, George Evans is an accomplished artist whose artworks are reflective of his academic training from Chouinard Art Institute (CalArts) and apprenticeship with the late renowned watercolorist William Pajaud. The trajectory of his practice spans fifty years with artworks proficiently executed in the media of watercolors, acrylics, pencil, photography, and digital. Through the application of these various media, Evans explores the absence of boundaries to develop and reconstruct his concepts about figure and form. He utilizes minimal brush strokes, the manipulation of layers of colors, textures, and patterns to standardize or deviate from the notions about the female physique in a broad spectrum of compositions.  The exhibition is a compilation of classic watercolor portraits to abstract composite photographs of the female figure and form that reflects a small sampling of Evans’ oeuvre.
