Mystery Writer Jennifer Kincheloe presents “Ladies on the Case”
Hear about the real trailblazing female cops and detectives of old Los Angeles

Women have a long, important history in law enforcement and police reform, especially here in L.A. Jennifer Kincheloe, a research scientist as well as a writer of historical fiction, takes us to Los Angeles of the past to meet the women who inspired lady cops world-wide and changed law enforcement forever. Among them: Lucy Gray, mother of nine and the LAPD’s first police matron (1888), Fanny Bixby, young, beautiful cop, socialite, and daughter of one of the richest men in California (1908); and Georgia Ann Robinson, activist, homicide detective, and first female African American cop (1919). These women were the inspiration for Jennifer’s award-winning Anna Blanc Mystery series, set among the women of the LAPD in the 1900s. Like Jennifer’s novels, our program will be a love letter to early LA.
