May ’22: President’s and Executive Director’s Joint Message

from Patricia Lombard and Stacy Brightman

May 6, 2022

May and June are busy months at The Ebell.  We hope you have an opportunity to join us for a number of upcoming events that really capture the Ebell community spirit.

This weekend, we were very excited to welcome members back for our first Mother’s Day Brunch since the pandemic.  A relatively new tradition, in our 128-year-old history, the Mother’s Day Brunch, started by Jane Martin, a long-time serving board member, has become quite popular. It’s a genuine way to honor our Ebell moms and appreciate our lovely home.

This week, members are invited to gather in person for a fun member Confab.  Later in the month we are also hosting our first art show, featuring dad and daughter, giving an early nod to Father’s Day next month!

As part of our partnership with Los Angeles World Affairs Council and Town Hall, we are very excited to host Mayoral Candidate Karen Bass, who was recently endorsed by the Los Angeles Times. This is the third conversation in the “Meet the Mayoral Candidates” series. We hope you will join us and learn more about the candidates who want to lead our city.

The Ebell Juniors are hosting an embroidery class and cultural journalist Victoria Lautman will present an illustrated talk on “The Vanishing Stepwells of India,” amazing water harvesting structures which date back a thousand years.

Next month we will be hosting our RCA grantees at our annual luncheon. Our theme is “Planting the Seeds of Kindness,” a celebration of what kindness to others can achieve — RCA helping the LA community through grants and volunteerism.

We hope you have an opportunity to join us for a number of upcoming events that really capture the Ebell community spirit.
