On October 14th, the Social Services Committee (SSC) held a volunteer and donation event, “Spirit of Giving: Women Supporting Women,” for members, friends, and family. It was a huge success, due to the generosity of so many and the atmosphere of kindness that filled the room. Participants stated it felt good to help the Rest Cottage Association grantees (who support women in need) and spend time with other members.

Members and their friends generously donated shampoos, deodorants, body lotions, toothbrushes, and toothpastes, during September and many brought these items with them on the day of the event. Pouches filled with completed hygiene kits were distributed by the SSC Ambassadors to the RCA recipients, who expressed their gratitude.

These types of volunteer events are what the Social Services Committee is all about. The SSC works all year with these nonprofits, orchestrating volunteer projects, and becoming a part of their grantee’s organization, while sharing all this with an amazing group of women. It’s difficult for us to imagine not having shampoo or toothpaste, but these women struggle each day. That is why the Ebell, the RCA and the SSC, work hard to help homeless women and homeless pregnant women, traumatized women vets, former foster young women, survivors of assault and trafficking, protect legal rights of women with mental disabilities, and support women with cancer.

So have fun with us, give back to the community, and join any or all our volunteer events throughout the year. If you have any questions, contact Arden Teplow at ardenteplow@gmail.com or (818) 522-7157.
